About this Event
Queer and Trans Allyship in the Workplace
This in-person session is for open-hearted folks who care about LGBTQIA2S+ people and want to continue to build their understanding and allyship. Maybe you’d like to be a better supervisor to an LGBTQIA2S+ staff member; maybe you’d like to make sure that your organization is serving LGBTQIA2S+ folks as well as you possibly can; maybe you have pronouns in your email signature line, but aren’t quite sure what else you can do to support your LGBTQIA2S+ colleagues.
Come learn with seasoned trainers Lukas Soto and Emily Evans in an informal and welcoming setting. We’ll cover the foundational queer and trans concepts, debunk common myths, identify frequent microaggressions, and share lots of simple but effective ways to be a great LGBTQIA2S+ ally.
We will be at the North Star Civic Foundation offices in downtown Portland. Hybrid option availible.
Presenter Bios:
Emily Evans (she/her) is the principal consultant of a boutique gender justice consulting firm. Prior to that, she served as Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Oregon for seven years where she co-authored the Count Her In report and companion policy briefs. Emily has dedicated her career to unearthing and dismantling the many ways that gender injustice harms us all.
Lukas 'louie' Soto (they/them) (Ojibwe/Mapuche) is a shapeshifting two-spirit healer, visionary, death doula, polymath, and all-around baddie. A tried-and-true West Coast baby, they split their time between Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon.
Professionally, louie has nearly a decade in consulting on a variety of topics centered around community, justice, and healing. Most recently, their work has been focused on suicide prevention in Black and Indigenous communities, BIPOC mental health, trans housing advocacy, queer data research and policy work, capacity building for Trans & gender-non-conforming (TGNC) leaders, TGNC immigrant and refugee advocacy, and collective community healing.
