LGBTQ+ Youth Allyship Series Part 2 of 3

LGBTQ Youth Allyship → Session 2: Learn, Celebrate and Elevate

Join us for brunch, fun, and learning at Freedom Forward’s HYPE Center, 198 Potrero Ave!

The purpose of this series is to support staff working in DCYF-funded programs in developing allyship skills with their youth and staff to increase feelings of belonging and safety for LGTBQ+ staff and youth program participants. The goal is for cohort participants to walk away feeling more confident in supporting allyship at their sites. 

Each session will include a combination of providing participants with opportunities to learn and share activities and ideas, as well as allowing emergent “problems of practice” to be discussed. 

As with all Spark Decks workshops, this series will focus on the process of innovating new ideas from a “spark” and reflecting and modifying activities each time they are implemented. In this way, learning on-the-job and the continuous quality improvement cycle are embedded into the workshop. Optional 1:1 coaching is also available, for anyone who would like additional support in increasing LGBTQ+ youth-allyship at their sites.

Goal: In this session, we will learn and share how learning about LGBTQ+ Youth Allyship can be done, and how to celebrate and elevate LGBTQ+ youth within our programs

Objectives: By the end of the session, participants will…

• Understand how to create safe(r) spaces for us and our youth to learn
• Craft a learning plan of what we want to learn, including when and how we will use our learning; and share resources for where to learn more (e.g. books, websites)
• Talk about how we are celebrating and elevating LGBTQ+ Youth, and look at how celebrating and elevating can be done through everyday interactions (beyond parties or events)
• Offer tools and next steps for thoughtful LGBTQ+ youth-centered learning, activities, and celebrations 

Each participant will receive a copy of the LGBTQ+ Youth Allyship deck and other useful materials.

This session will take place at Freedom Forward HYPE Center, 198 Potrero Ave
