Distinctive harmonies full of magic encounter asymmetrical rhythms – Bulgarian folklore leaves a lasting impression on its listeners. The rich polyphonic melodies and typical ornamentation unleash a unique world of sound. The music is intimate, moving and has a power that fills both hearts and concert halls.█ Under the motto “Levitation – Bulgarische Folklore durch Raum und Zeit” Berlin’s Bulgarian choirs celebrate their 20th anniversary and invite you to the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie Berlin.
█ The program consists of an auditory feast traversing the sacred and the profane. Featuring both traditional and modern arrangements of folklore and orthodox music, it embraces the playful dissonances of West Bulgaria to the timeless melodies of the Rhodopes and the intricate ornamentation of the Black Sea coast. You have the opportunity to hear an eclectic repertoire, ranging from classics like I. Spassov, G. Andreev, C. Todorov and N. Peev to very recent works and arrangements by B. Velichkova, N. Andreeva, L. Morgenstern, A. Goodwin and D. Miteva.
█ The two choirs Bulgarian Voices Berlin and BulCanto will be further flanked by the talents of Lisa Morgenstern, Neli Andreeva from the Bulgarian National Ensemble "Philip Koutev," and the Adam Goodwin String Ensemble.
Further musical contributions will be performed by the Chamber Choir of the Collegium Musicum Berlin under the direction of Donka Miteva, the children choir Sharena Gayda led by Boryana Velichkova as well as the All in Stage Dance Compagnie of the Reinickendorf Music School with choreographies by Eleonora Alexandrova Meyden and choreographies by Yannis Karalis for BulCanDance.
