In our Advanced Acting Prep Sessions, students will learn how to incorporate technique (Strasberg + Meisner) into their work and use sense memory, guided fantasies, and inner dialogues to create more personal and meaningful performances while preparing around a monologue or scripted scene. Acting Prep is vital for actors who are serious about their craft, want to affect their audiences, and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of what’s required to prepare for roles to give the very best performance.

This class is offered in 4-week sessions (blocks). It is for a small number of serious actors in an intimate studio setting. It is both process and performance-focused; meaning, it is not merely “rehearse + perform,” but working together each week on your scripted monologue or scene. Prep is vital for actors who are serious about their craft, want to affect their audiences, and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of what’s required to prepare for roles to give the very best performance. The work in this class will challenge you to explore various tools and skills crucial to finding your true self as an actor. You will deepen your work, strengthen your technique and preparation skills, learn how to invite and trust inspiration, and take risks. Students will also learn:
• How to incorporate technique (Strasberg + Meisner) into your work
• How to use sense memory, guided fantasies, and inner dialogues
• How to create more personal and meaningful performances
• How to make bold choices and work from a freely imaginative place
• How to develop reliable tools for problem-solving on your own
• The best way to serve the script, the director, and the editor (so that it’s impossible for them to cut away from you)
In class # 1, students will decide if they would like to work by themselves on a monologue or pair up with a fellow student for a scripted scene. Students will find and select the script they plan to work on for the duration of the 4-week session (we are happy to provide our list of recommendations if need be). Students will prepare inside the classroom with their instructor, rehearse their scene, put it up in class, receive instructor notes/feedback, rehearse the scene outside of class (with the adjustment in mind), and present the scene again. We recommend students work in the Prep sessions until they are able to successfully practice self-adjustment (rather than having to rely on a teacher or director).

• Adults and Mature Teens who have completed Level 1 Acting Session and at least one Level 2 Acting Session OR
• Those who have previously trained at a reputable, technique-based studio and have demonstrable experience
• Professionally-minded students who are working towards paid bookings and/or representation
• Performance-minded students who are working towards mastering technique, process, and performance
