Kom op dinsdag 17 mei naar De Sering (Rhôneweg 6), voor een lezing over de Duitse actiegroep Letzte Generation. De lezing begint om 20:00 en is in het Engels.
Letzte Generation maakt deel uit van een nieuwe golf van grassroots geweldloze directe actiegroepen, die het afgelopen jaar in verschillende landen verschenen. Afgelopen zomer ging Letzte Generation van start toen 6 jongeren in hongerstaking gingen om een meeting te eisen met kandidaat-regeringsleiders in Duitsland over de klimaat- en ecologische noodsituatie. Sindsdien is de groep zeer snel gegroeid – ze blokkeerden snelwegen, verstoorden luchthavens en havens met fossiele brandstoffen om een einde te eisen aan nieuwe infrastructuur voor fossiele brandstoffen en een snelle en eerlijke klimaattransitie. In hun laatste golf van acties waren er arrestaties in heel Duitsland toen mensen die actief waren bij Letzte Generation noodafsluiters van pijpleidingen open draaiden om de oliestroom te stoppen.
Kyle Topfer is actief bij Letzte Generation en Scientist Rebellion Duitsland. Hij zal vertellen over waarom Letzte Generation is opgericht, hun strategie en eisen.

Meet us at De Sering (Rhôneweg 6) on Tuesday 17th May, for a talk about the German group Letzte Generation. The talk will start at 20:00 (8pm) and will be in English.
Letzte Generation is part of a new wave of grassroots non-violent direct action groups that started in the last year in several countries. Last summer, Letzte Generation kicked off as 6 young people went on hunger strike to demand a meeting with candidate chancellors in Germany about the climate and ecological emergency. Since then, the group has been growing very fast – they blocked highways, disrupted airports and fossil fuel harbors to demand an end to new fossil fuel infrastructure and a fast and fair climate transition. In their last wave of actions, there were arrests all around Germany as people active with Letzte Generation turned emergency pipeline valves to stop the flow of oil.
Kyle Topfer is active with Letzte Generation and Scientist Rebellion Germany. He’ll talk about why Letze Generation was set up, their strategy, and demands.
