About the Menstruation Talk
The SuPer Project wants to improve period education throughout the UK to reduce stigma and ensure nobody has to experience period poverty.
In this talk, we will be covering all the essentials we think everyone should know about menstruation, to be able to live a comfortable and shame free menstrual life. By the end of this talk, you will be comfortable managing your menstruation (or supporting your loved ones through their period) and advocating for yourself with healthcare professionals if and when needed.
We will also walk you through the wide variety of menstrual management products on the market and how to pick the right one for you.
Finally, we will take a look at menopause, how it can affect you, what symptoms to look out for and when to seek help.
Taking you on this journey of discovery and confidence building will be Mel Newton; Founder and Leader of The SuPer Project who is currently working towards a Doctorate degree exploring menstrual stigma at Nottingham Trent University.
This talk is open to anyone and everyone interested in understanding more about menstruation – you don’t need to be a menstruator yourself! However, please note that we will be having open and frank conversations about the body, so please be sure you are comfortable with this before booking.

The SuPer Project
The SuPer Project launched in 2021 with the aim of using reusable sanitary wear to defeat period poverty in the UK. At The SuPer Project, we believe that reusable sanitary wear provides a sustainable option for some of the most vulnerable people in our community if we can break down the initial financial barrier. That’s why, for every pad we sell we donate one to someone living in period poverty in Nottingham. We worked on our pads for years to ensure it could compete with disposable ones on comfort and absorbency but without the harmful plastics and chemicals. Our pads are made by our incredible team of volunteers who want to use their sewing skills to give back to their community and the planet!
