About this Event
What Brain Changes and Shifts in Ability are Noticed When Dementia Happens?
Do you find yourself asking "Why is she/he doing that?" looking at your loved one's behavior? This session is designed to help attendees understand what happens to various parts of the brain when someone is developing and living with dementia. Together we will recognize the importance of knowing what is lost or impaired and what is retained, along with an introduction of supportive responses. By the end of this session, attendees will be able to: 1. Recognize the complexity of the human brain and how it controls everything we do 2. Identify the impact of brain change on Persons Living with Dementia and notice possible supportive responsesWhy is this important for friends and family members of those living with dementia? Knowledge of what causes a behavior will help you develop empathy and understanding.
Led by Positive Approach to Care Dementia Educator CherylAnn Haley, this group will answer some of the questions you have while teaching you practical skills to adapt. CherylAnn understand the pain and frustration that can come with dementia but also knows that love and knowledge can give caregivers the strength and skills to be able to live life with your loved one. Her Mom Sandy recently passed away after having vascular dementia and Alzheimer's for a decade. In that time, CherylAnn trained with global dementia specialist and her team so she could better interact with her Mom. She began sharing that knowledge with others while her Mom was still alive and continues now because she wants to inspire others and give them hope- and skills!
