About this Event
Let’s Talk About Art: Miss Julie In partnership with Court Theatre (2022 Tony Award® winner)
Join us for a special two-part Let’s Talk About Art program centered on August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, presented in partnership with Court Theatre, a 2022 Tony Award®–winning institution recognized for excellence in regional theatre.
The program begins with a virtual talk on Thursday, February 6 at 1:00 PM, where participants will explore Strindberg’s work, its historical and cultural context, and gain behind-the-scenes insight into Court Theatre’s production. This conversation will provide tools for deeper engagement with the play, including discussion of its themes, characters, and contemporary relevance.
Participants will then attend a live performance at Court Theatre on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 PM, experiencing the work in dialogue with the ideas discussed during the virtual session.
Miss Julie is a charged confrontation of class, gender, and desire at the turn of the twentieth century—concerns that remain strikingly resonant today. Over the course of a wine-soaked evening, Miss Julie, an aristocrat longing to escape the constraints of her social position, and Jean, her servant determined to rise within it, collide through power, intimacy, and ambition. Directed by Senior Artistic Producer Gabrielle Randle-Bent (A Raisin in the Sun), this production interrogates the tension between who we are and who we want to be, and the limits of politics, status, and self-determination.
This event is free, but advance registration is required to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 15 participants. Please register via Eventbrite.
