For the first time, we have the opportunity to sketch The Auditorium Theatre!
Enter through the main glass doors off of Ida B Wells. The Auditorium is also providing one of their tour guides who will give a brief overview and answer any questions you may have about this beautiful building. Please stay in the general area that the tour guide has open for us and make sure to clean up after yourself.
Please plan to arrive on time as the doors will be locked after we enter. If you are late due to unplanned circumstances, message Tammy Campbell (cell # will be posted on the door) and she will have our tour guide unlock the door for you.

The Auditorium is a National Historic Landmark known internationally for its perfect acoustics, innovative architecture, and stunning design. The Auditorium Theatre is the crowning achievement of famed architects Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan and opened its doors on December 9, 1889. The Auditorium also was the first multi-use building! Its design included a 4,200 seat auditorium, originally intended primarily for the production of opera, surrounded by over 130 offices; a first-class, 400-room hotel, a bar, and restaurants.

Throughout its over 135-year history, the theater has evolved and hosted many famous dance companies, musicians, presidents, poets, authors, political historical figures (like Ida B Wells, Booker T Washington) and rock stars (Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Grateful Dead to name a few). The list is long! Their vision is to continue to be a Theatre for the People -- to make the arts accessible to all, by bringing people from all across the city together to celebrate the performing arts and continuing to present and produce programming that reflects the rich diversity of the great city of Chicago
