Join us for a relaxed sketching session at Cathedral Square, located directly across from the iconic Holy Rosary Cathedral in downtown Vancouver. The public plaza offers a rich mix of architectural and urban elements that make it a perfect spot for sketching.
**RAIN PLAN**
If the weather turns, we’ll move indoors to the Vancouver Public Library, a fantastic space with unique architectural features, grand interiors, and indoor activity that are perfect for sketching.
Sketching Subjects:
\- The surrounding plaza and urban environment – benches, trees, fountains, and architectural details of the Holy Rosary Cathedral
\- People and everyday life – capture candid moments of locals and visitors interacting with the space.
\- Vancouver Public Library (Central Branch) – Iconic postmodern architecture with dramatic arches, open atriums, and spiral staircases.
\- Shops and cafés – Cafés around Beatty Street or Dunsmuir Street for capturing everyday activity.
Meeting Point:
We will gather at 1pm by the benches and reconvene to the same spot at 3:15pm to share our works.
Things To Bring:
• art supplies
• water
• a collapsible stool or chair
• an umbrella and / or a hat, in case of rain or shine
How to Get There:
The location is conveniently located within 3-6 mins walking distance from multiple skytrain stations.
Public Transit: If coming via Expo Line or Canada Line, you can get off either at Granville Station or VCC and walk 3-4 mins east along Dunsmuir St to Richards St. Cathedral Square will be on the corner.
Driving: En route downtown Vancouver, get on to either Dunsmuir St (eastbound, one-way) or Richards St (southbound, one-way). Cathedral Square is right at their intersection. Paid parking options available nearby.
