DATE: March 26th, 10:00 AM – 2:50 PM

COST: $7

Join us for an all-around agriculture and horticulture day with education in raised bed gardening, food production, container growing, in-ground orchards, and more! We will teach about various livestock, small and large, and help you decide which ones are best for you farm, homestead, or backyard!

Beginners are welcome! Just bring your questions. Lunch provided.

Stay after lunch to participate in the Extension Advisory Committee for Agriculture, as we discuss pertinent issues to Nassau County's stakeholders including farmers, producers, and growers of all types.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Livestock Basics - 10am - Understand the limitations of each type of animal, especially chickens, rabbits, Nigerian dwarf goats, etc.
  • Blueberry Varieties and Care - 10:50am - Understand the difference between rabbiteye and S. Highbush and learn proper pruning techniques
  • Hydroponic Strawberries - 11:40am - Get inpired to grow growing hydroponic strawberries
  • Raised Bed Gardening - 12:30 pm - Commit to soil testing, understand how to calculate lbs. of fertilizer needed for 100 sq. Ft.
  • Lunch - 1:10pm
  • Extension Advisory Committee for Agriculture - 2:00 pm - Vote on the most needed fact sheet from the local Extension agent. Provide feedback on farmer needs/projects.
