We're serving up our third helping of sweet indulgence! After successful exhibitions at POST at the Bendix Building and Blue Roof Studios, "Let Me Eat Cake, Please!" returns to transform Shoebox into an immersive feast for the eyes.
Curated by Kristine Schomaker, this exhibition explores our complex relationships with food through the lens of desserts, treats, and culinary delights. Inspired by the lush abundance of Baroque and Rococo aesthetics, the gallery becomes a confectionery dream with salon-style hanging covering every wall floor to ceiling. From hyperrealistic paintings of dripping chocolate to abstract interpretations of candy colors, from photographs of elaborate cakes to mixed media explorations of texture and taste - this show celebrates the visual feast of food while creating space for conversations about comfort, healing, and joy.
This exhibition operates as both art show and community healing space, acknowledging food as a site of pleasure, memory, culture, and connection. Through art that makes viewers want to lick the walls, we explore themes of abundance without shame, cultural celebration through traditional sweets, and the radical act of finding joy in indulgence.
