Lestah Laughs
About this Event
Lestah Laughs is a brand new comedy night at The Terrace, Leicester and it kicks off with a belter! Let's meet the comedians:
Your host for the evening is Hitz Unadkat. Hitz is a Leicester local who recently moved to Milton Keynes and classes that as an upgrade. His surname is too hard to pronounce so he has to go by “hitz.comedy” on all social media platforms. Hitz has performed up and down the country and is making a name for himself on the comedy circuit. His stories on the ups and downs of being a British Indian will have you in stitches.

Midlands Comedy Awards 'Best Newcomer and Rising Star' in consecutive years, 2018 and 2019 (Industry only votes), Notts Comedy Reviewer’s 'Best Newcomer' 2018, NCF (Nottingham comedy festival) 'New Comedian Competition' winner 2019 and Jim Howarth’s Comedy Hotspot ’search for a star’ comp winner 2022.
"Dude, you are a talented compère" (Sean Collins).
"Whenever Doug is MC at a Gig I’m on, I know I’m in safe Hands" (Eddy Brimson).
"Great job last night, very comfortable on stage, nice clear delivery, and good audience engagement. Very professional’" (Nobby Kash, Hecklers Comedy Club).
"An incredibly positive attitude and a funny guy to have in the green room as well as on stage" (James Dowdswell).
"Someone’s got to follow that, followed by pick of the night" (Roger Monkhouse).
"Doug Carter was on a stacked bill and didn’t look out of place at all, in fact, he was some audience members favourite on the night. Assured, funny and engaging, he did a great job for me and I will be booking him again." (Jim Howarth, Comedy Hotspot).
"You are a very funny man, You can only go up from here." (Ninia Benjamin).
"I've seen Doug perform a few times now. He's impossible for an audience to dislike. Affable, warm and very funny. Huge future in stand-up." (Joe Zalias).
"You were superb, we look forward to having you on again as soon as possible." (Noel Brodie, The Surgery Comedy).
"This guy is one to watch" (Comedy Lounge Hull).
"Carter had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand almost as soon as he picked the mic up." (Peter Fox - Notts Comedy Review).
"Doug is one of the few people I have trusted to run and MC my gig whilst I’m away and always has great feedback" (Paul Savage).
Next up is Tharun Chelley. Tharun has been performing since 2018 and is an observational comedian who talks about himself as a British Asian and the issues he faces in the Midlands (well, more like the issues he causes others). He brings a lot of high energy where he discusses family life, sneezing and issues with his wife.
“His powerful voice and grounded delivery was quite striking. This was a set that generated a lot of laughs and I think everyone would have liked to have seen more" (Nottingham Comedy Review).
“An easy-going routine of cleverly constructed jokes delivered with dry wit entertained the late-night crowd.” (Richard Gill, A Rich comic life).
Then we have Rachel Baker. Rachel lives in Birmingham but really she lives to laugh. Her cheeky delivery and hilarious physicality makes her a unique and joyous presence on the circuit. Big Value Act 2026, Funny Women Finalist, Sketch Off Finalist and Birmingham Breaking Talent nominee, she loves to gig almost as much as she loves finding chicken goujons for 40p in the reduced section. Rachel been tour support for Urooj Ashfaq, Eric Rushton, Sam Nicoresti, Mark Bittlestone and Lou Wall.
"A joyous performer, hilariously wonderful" (Lindsey Santoro).
"Her remarkable ability to connect with audiences is truly unparalleled." (Theatre Village).
Your headliner on the night is the hilarious President Obonjo. As the larger-than-life, uber-confident, self-appointed, side-splitting dictator of 'Lafta Republic', President Obonjo has quietly been leading a comedy revolution to become the first President to take over the comedy industry by storm. He has been creating rumblings by storming New Act competitions including winning Luton Comedian of the Year, Runner-Up at Great Yorkshire Fringe and was a finalist in the Naty New Act of the Year competition 2016. His previous solo show President Obonjo Stole My Identity was performed in 2015 at Bath Comedy Festival, Brighton Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in 2015 and 2017 to packed crowds and critical acclaim. His latest show the Rise of the Comedy Dictator was performed at Edinburgh Fringe Comedy Festival in 2017 and at Leicester Comedy Festival in 2018. President Obonjo returned to Edinburgh in 2019 with his show "Goodbye Mr President".
“It’s a great comic construct, with lots of seized opportunities for playing with the clichés” (Steve Bennett, Chortle).
“There was the potential of that high-status, comedy bomb-proof kind of character that Alexis Dubus has created so successfully with Marcel Lucont.” (Ben Veneables, Londonist).
“This hour-long show was a revelation... Not at all what I was expecting.” (John Fleming).
“On the face of it, it works as a well-crafted political comedy, exposing how the world has treated Africa and left much of it to suffer corrupt governments led by the likes of Obonjo. But it's the layers of context that really make this a fascinating, bewildering and painfully funny experience.” (☆☆☆☆☆ Fringe G).
