Join us for a special Advent service featuring the choirs of Musica Sacra San Antonio, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Northwood Presbyterian Church at the Sacred Heart Chapel at OLLU. 411 SW 24th Street

All events are free and open to the public. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to OLLU music department programs. Attendees are kindly requested to wear masks.

Lessons and Carols at the Lake is a wonderful way for the whole family to prepare for the Christmas season. Tuneful carols and anthems, accompanied by scripture, tell the story of the good news of the coming of an age of peace and reconciliation of the world's peoples. Three choirs, Musica Sacra San Antonio, the OLLU Choir, and Northwood Presbyterian Choir, will be joined by musicians from the San Antonio Symphony. Works by Bach, Bainton, Rachmaninoff, and Willcox are featured along with traditional and contemporary offerings.
Selections from Bach's timeless cantata Wachet auf will be heard, as well as "The Song of Mary", set to the haunting tune, "Vocalise" by Rachmananoff as a featured anthem with violin obbligato played by symphony violinist Beth Johnson. The magisterial anthem by English composer Edgar Bainton, "And I Saw a New Heaven", sung recently at Colin Powell's funeral at the Washington National Cathedral, will be offered by the Musica Sacra Choir under the direction of Owen Duggan.
A delightful new Spanish carol "Toda la tierra" (All Earth is Hopeful) will be sung by the Northwood Choir, also directed by Duggan, and the stirring spiritual,,"Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning" by the OLLU Choir under the direction of Mark Marty.
