Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo : Threads of Awakening will be in Paducah on October 18th presenting her new book about the years she spent in India learning the Tibetan art of thangka-making!
Presentation: 2:30 PM at the The National Quilt Museum
The classroom is to the right as you come into the Museum.
She will have two of her thangkas with her as examples of the work. There are painted Thangkas and appliqued ones. Hers use the appliqued technique where each piece attaches to the next one so that all of them form a dimensional whole.
Every piece is couched by horse hair that has been covered by spun silk thread. Leslie is the only Westerner who has apprenticed with Tibetan artists in Dharamshala, the city in India where His Holiness the Dalai Lama resides. The technique is specific to Tibetans and serves a role in their spiritual practice.
Leslie's book shares stories about the people she met there and how they enhanced her life experience and learning. She lives in Oxnard, California and is touring the US to share her book and experiences.
Leslie will be at the Green Roof International House for a reception at 6:30 PM. All are welcome to meet her!
