Les griots montréalais ont tenu à se rassembler ce soir pour chanter les louanges de Lamine Touré, fondateur du Festival, et célébrer l’événement qui, depuis 40 ans, ouvre les portes du monde à la scène locale. Initié par la seule et unique Djely Tapa, nouvelle voix de la musique mandingue, “une artiste née par Touré, née au Balattou, née aux Nuits d'Afrique” a-t-elle elle-même déclaré sur TV5 Monde en 2018, ce spectacle exceptionnel réunira sur scène une pléthore d’artistes issus d’illustres familles ouest-africaines et dont la réputation en matière spectacles hauts en couleur n’est plus à faire. Voix qui en imposent, percussions robustes, kora scintillante et autres instruments traditionnels et modernes: ça va être la fête!

Montreal’s griots have gathered this evening to sing the praises of the Festival’s founder, Lamine Touré, and celebrate the 40th anniversary of this extraordinary yearly event that has opened up the world to the local music talent. Launched by the one and only Djely Tapa—a new star on the Mandinka music scene, “an artist born of Touré, born at Club Balattou, born in the Nuits d’Afrique,” as she put it during a 2018 TV5 Monde interview—the show will feature an exceptional lineup of artists from illustrious West African families, all renowned for their scintillating performances. With powerful vocals, lively percussion, the enchanting kora and a mix of traditional and modern instruments, it’s going to be a fabulous celebration!
