Join the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston for an insightful conversation with Sean Theriault, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Government at the University of Texas at Austin, on the evolving role of religious leadership in global affairs with a focus on Pope Leo’s papacy and its impact on international politics, culture, and institutional reform.
In an era marked by rising geopolitical tensions, social polarization, and complex global challenges, the previous papacy of Francis stood out for its emphasis on institutional change, social justice, and a renewed engagement with global audiences. Drawing on his latest research, Professor Theriault will examine how Francis’s leadership style and policy priorities compare with those of his recent predecessors and what this means for the Catholic Church’s role on the world stage.
This program will appeal to members and guests interested in religion and international affairs, global leadership, institutional change, and the intersections of faith and world politics.
