About this Event

LEGO® Education SPIKE™ — 4-Session Robotics Series for Ages 6-9

Kids ages 6-9 will build, code, and program LEGO® Education SPIKE™ robots across four Saturday morning sessions. Across four weeks, students get real time with the kits: building, testing, breaking, fixing, and coding together in a small group.

Session Dates:

  • Saturday, September 5, 2026 — 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
  • Saturday, September 12, 2026 — 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
  • Saturday, September 19, 2026 — 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
  • Saturday, September 26, 2026 — 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

What students will do:

  • Build and rebuild multiple robot models over the four sessions
  • Learn the basics of block-based programming and grow more confident each week
  • Use motors and sensors to make their robots move, react, and solve problems
  • See how engineering and coding fit together in real-world robotics
  • Take on progressively harder challenges as their skills build

What to expect:

  • Small group instruction (6-8 students per session for extra individual attention)
  • Interactive, beginner-friendly environment
  • A steady mix of building, coding, and testing robots
  • Engaging challenges that reward teamwork, patience, and problem-solving

Who should attend:

  • Kids ages 6-9 interested in technology, coding, and robotics
  • No prior experience required. Perfect for beginners and curious makers.

What to bring:

  • Just curiosity and excitement.
  • All kits, devices, and materials are provided by MakerSpace Charlotte.
  • Please leave personal LEGO builds and other toys at home so students can focus on the SPIKE kits.

Class-specific policies:

  • Series continuity: Each session builds on the last. Students will get the most from the class by attending all four Saturdays. Missing a session is okay but will mean catching up.
  • Kits stay at MakerSpace: SPIKE kits belong to MakerSpace Charlotte and stay at the space between sessions. Students will not take robots home.
  • Arrival: Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can start on time.
  • Parents stay: A parent or guardian is expected to remain on-site during class, per MakerSpace Charlotte policy.

Instructor:

Chris is a Charlotte-based software engineer and lifelong LEGO builder. He's spent over 20 years building software and loves being a maker. His son's interest in LEGO and electronics pulled him back into robotics, and he teaches at MakerSpace Charlotte to share that same spark with other kids
