About this Event
This lecture explores the wartime service of Members of the Legislative Assembly and the 1916 conscription debate.
Marking 110 years since the Australian Conscription Referendum, this lecture looks at the service of soldier-legislators leading into 1916, the impact of the referendum debate on New South Wales, and the resulting split of the Labor Party.
Delivered in the Legislative Assembly Chamber, the lecture will be introduced by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Hon Greg Piper MP.
This is the second in our Legislators at War series and follows last year's lecture which commemorated the unveiling in the Legislative Assembly Chamber of the memorial to Lieutenant-Colonel George Frederick Braund and Sergeant Rennix Larkin.
