Legenda Sawung Kampret is the first Indonesian comic book ever translated into Dutch, published as De legende van Vleermuisvechter. Historian Tom van der Geugten and his daughter Jolien van der Geugten, who serves as the book’s publisher in the Netherlands, will present the story of how this iconic comic book made its way to the Netherlands. Originally published between 1990 and 2009, the series was created by Indonesian prominent cartoonist Dwi Koendoro. It tells a satirical story of a local warrior in the 17th-century Batavia, offering a rare and unexpected perspective on our history.
