About this Event
Legend of the Strong Black Woman: A Hands-On Workshop to Reclaim Rest as Your Birthright
The "Strong Black Woman" narrative doesn't just live in our minds—it lives in our bodies. Chronic stress from navigating racism and carrying everyone else's burdens shows up as hypertension, inflammation, and weathering that takes a toll on our health. We hold trauma in our muscles, our breath, our nervous systems. Until we create space to release it, our bodies carry the weight.
This is why rest isn't luxury—it's survival. It's resistance.
Join My Hair My Health PDX on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 2-4 PM at The Encorepreneur Cafe for a transformative afternoon where we name the harm of the Strong Black Woman trope and practice tools to release what we've been carrying.
What to Expect:
This hands-on workshop creates space for Black women to:
- Name and release the harmful expectations of the "Strong Black Woman" narrative
- Experience somatic movement to release trauma from our bodies (NEW this year!)
- Connect with community in a culturally grounded, healing-centered space
Who Should Attend:
This workshop is for Black women who:
- Have been holding their breath
- Are tired of carrying everyone else
- Need permission to rest without guilt
- Want to reconnect with their bodies and release stored trauma
