About this Event
A word-class lecture is coming to campus.
Coming straight from former NFL Quarterback turned civil rights icon Colin Kaepernick’s 'Know Your Rights Camp,' "Legal Rights in Police Encounters" is an intense legal training that’s been delivered on stages across the country. This session is a practical walkthrough that clarifies the rights young people—especially youth of color—are entitled to during police encounters, outlines strategies for self-protection without escalation, and armors the audience with a protocol they can carry into their very next interaction.
Led by Cayden M. Brown, an 18-year-old child rights defender and legal historian whose work has been featured in Forbes and TIME, and who ABC News calls “the world’s most influential juvenile justice advocate.” Brown has spoken internationally at the United Nations, Harvard, and NIKE — and now he’s bringing his expertise to Detroit Mercy.
