About Pure Prairie League:
From their beginnings in mid-1960s Ohio as a group of friends playing cover songs to their current lineup, Pure Prairie League has continued to build on a rich 50-plus-year history as one of country rock's pioneering bands. Today's lineup features drummer Scott Thompson, bassist Jared Camic, keyboardist Randy Harper, guitarist and vocalist Jeff Zona, and pedal steel guitarist/saxophonist John Heinrich. As one reviewer recently noted, "PPL's sound combines sweet memories with edgy, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine, and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor."
Their self-titled debut album, featuring the iconic Norman Rockwell-inspired Saturday Evening Post cover artwork that introduced fans to the band's trademark cowboy character "Sad Luke," has been recognized as a major early influence on the rise of country rock music. Their second album, the multi-platinum Bustin' Out, included the Craig Fuller-written classic "Amie" along with several other standout tracks. With the release of Two Lane Highway, nine additional albums, and countless live performances, Pure Prairie League has built a lasting legacy.
Over the years, the band has featured and collaborated with many notable musicians, including original co-founder George Ed Powell, Cincinnati's Goshorn Brothers, Country Music Hall of Fame members Gary Burr and Vince Gill, songwriter Jeff Wilson (who wrote three Top 20 singles), Nashville session vocalist Curtis Wright, and guest artists such as Chet Atkins, Johnny Gimble, Emmylou Harris, David Sanborn, Don Felder of the Eagles, Nicolette Larson, Rosemary Butler, Jenifer Wrinkle, Jeff "Birdman" Kirk, and Mat Britain, among many others.
