Legacies of Long Hill: House & Garden Tour

Step inside the beauty and layered history of Long Hill with a guided tour of its breathtaking gardens and historic house. Once the summer home of the Sedgwick family, Long Hill offers a glimpse into the refined lifestyle of Boston’s North Shore elite while also highlighting the many hands that shaped places like this across early America. Along the way, you’ll learn about the skilled artisans, gardeners, and laborers—including enslaved craftspeople—whose contributions helped shape the architecture and remarkable landscapes we see today.
Your tour includes the first floor of this Federal-style mansion and the spectacular gardens, where Japanese gates and pagodas frame vibrant perennial plantings from around the world. Along the way, discover a room adorned with extraordinary 19th-century Chinese wallpaper, learn how the Sedgwick gardens evolved over time, and hear how we thoughtfully steward and maintain this living legacy today.
Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, comfortable shoes, as portions of the tour take place outdoors. Tours meet in front of the Main House by the copper beech tree.
