GRAMMY-winning guitarist Lee Ritenour is known for blending solo artistry with collaborative genius. Nicknamed “Captain Fingers” for his early session work with the Mamas and the Papas, he’s recorded over 40 albums with 35 charting songs and earned 19 GRAMMY nominations. A founding member of the jazz supergroup Fourplay, Ritenour has performed on more than 3,000 sessions spanning pop, jazz, and fusion.
In 2010, celebrating 50 years as a guitarist, he released 6 String Theory, featuring Steve Lukather, Slash, George Benson, and B.B. King, while launching the global 6 String Theory Competition in partnership with Yamaha, Berklee, Montreux Jazz Festival, and others. The competition has expanded to include Rhythm Section categories and led to collaborations on Ritenour’s Rhythm Sessions and A Twist of Rit albums. Winners have performed at Montreux and Blue Note Tokyo, recorded in Malibu, and received scholarships, endorsements, and mentoring from Ritenour.
In 2016, Concord Records released The Vinyl LP Collection, a limited box set featuring remastered versions of Earth Run, Portrait, Festival, Color Rit, and Wes Bound on 180-gram audiophile vinyl. The set includes restored artwork and a 46-page booklet with personal photos and reflections, offering an intimate view into Ritenour’s storied career.
