Vimy Ridge: Explore the battle and its impact. Join us for a night of exploration as Canadian War Museum historians Tim Cook, Brittany Dunn, and Teresa Iacobelli offer insight into the Battle of Vimy Ridge and its legacy. Each of the three lectures will be accompanied by images of rare historical photographs, works of art, and material culture.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge, fought over four bloody days from April 9 to 12, 1917, was a titanic clash. The Canadian Corps, four divisions strong, surged up the Ridge, driving enemy formations from their prepared positions. The Battle was celebrated at the time and has been commemorated as a significant victory ever since. But what actually happened at Vimy Ridge? What were the experiences of Canadian soldiers? How did the Canadians defeat the dug-in German defenders? What was the price of victory? And how has the encounter been remembered over time? Don’t miss this compelling look at the historic battle and its enduring impact.
Guests are also invited to the Canadian War Museum Lobby from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. to meet the historians. The event is in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French, and will be recorded.
