🧠 Lecture: "The Wild Journey of the Southern California Steelhead"
🎙️ Speaker: Russell Marlow
Join us for a captivating evening exploring one of California’s most remarkable and imperiled fish: the Southern California steelhead. These resilient fish begin life in our coastal streams, migrate to the open ocean, and then fight their way back to our rivers to spawn—if they can still find a way.
“The Wild Journey of the Southern California Steelhead” traces this extraordinary life cycle across watersheds from the Santa Maria River to the Tijuana River, revealing how dams, development, and climate change have pushed the species to the edge of extinction.
Regional Manager of CalTrout’s Ventura Office, Russell Marlow has a master’s degree in stream ecology and more than 20 years of experience in aquatic species conservation and watershed restoration. He will highlight the urgent recovery work now underway to restore passage, reconnect habitat, and bring Southern California steelhead back from the brink.
