🧠Lecture: "The Science and Philosophy of Free Will"
🎤 Speaker: Prof. Jeremy Evans
Join us for a thought-provoking evening as Prof. Jeremy Evans examines one of the most enduring questions in human history: do we really have free will?
The assumption that humans freely choose their actions underlies how we punish criminals, praise good deeds, and navigate friendships, families, and work. Drawing on recent work in both philosophy and brain science, Prof. Evans will explore whether scientific research undermines our traditional notions of free will and moral responsibility.
What happens to concepts like guilt, blame, and punishment if our choices are shaped by neural processes beyond our conscious control? And if free will is limited—or an illusion—how should that change our criminal justice system, as well as the way we treat the people closest to us?
Dr. Jeremy Evans received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 2014 and now directs the Managing for Social Impact program at Boston College.
