🧠Lecture: "The Long Road to Gay Marriage: From Gallows to Gavel"
🎤 Speaker: Judge Matthew Nestor
Join us for a compelling evening as trial judge Matthew Nestor traces the hard-fought journey of gay rights in America, from criminalization to constitutional protection—and the challenges now threatening those gains.
Drawing on over 20 years on the bench in Massachusetts, Judge Nestor will review the landmark cases that expanded LGBTQ+ rights, including the historic Massachusetts decision that paved the way for marriage equality nationwide. He will also examine current court efforts to roll back these rights and what they may mean for the future.
Interwoven throughout the legal story are pivotal moments in contemporary history—from the Stonewall uprising to the AIDS crisis—that shaped public opinion, advocacy, and the courts themselves.
Matthew Nestor is a Superior Court judge in Massachusetts, presiding over both civil and criminal trials. His unique perspective from inside the courtroom offers a rare, nuanced look at how law, culture, and courage intersect in the fight for equality.
