Join us for an illuminating evening exploring how Los Angeles has been shaped—and defined—by its graphics and signage. Environmental Graphic Designer Bret Yourstone will introduce environmental graphics as a focused subset of graphic design and reveal how LA’s relatively modern development as a major city helped give rise to this emerging design discipline.

From iconic neon signs to wayfinding systems woven into major architectural projects, you’ll discover how graphics, typography, and signage contribute to LA’s unique visual identity and urban experience. Bret will highlight pioneering environmental graphic designers who practiced in Los Angeles and the lasting impact of their work on the city’s architectural landscape.

A Southern California native, Bret specializes in experience design and placemaking for iconic places and visitor experiences. His work can be seen at the Los Angeles Arboretum, the city of Hollywood, The Grand LA by Frank Gehry, the Presidio of San Francisco, Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, and the Alamo in San Antonio.
