Join us for a fascinating evening exploring how psychedelic compounds are transforming both mental health treatment and the science of consciousness. Professor Michael Silver will trace the history of psychedelic research, from its early promise to its modern resurgence, and explain why these substances are such powerful tools for understanding the mind and brain.

You’ll hear about cutting-edge work at the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP), including human studies using psilocybin to probe perception, cognition, and conscious experience. Professor Silver will also discuss how psychedelic-assisted therapies may help with mental health disorders and what the next decade of research could reveal.

Michael Silver is a Professor of Optometry and Vision Science and Neuroscience at UC Berkeley. His laboratory investigates how the human brain constructs our experience of the world and how attention, expectation, and learning shape what we perceive. Since 2020, he has served as Faculty Director of BCSP, leading interdisciplinary research at the frontier of psychedelics and consciousness science.
