🧠 Lecture: "Masculinity Isn't Dying — It's Being Reinvented Online"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Tira J. Murray
Is masculinity in crisis—or is it simply changing? From the rise of Red Pill and podcast culture to K-pop stars, male beauty influencers, and queer creators, digital platforms have exposed us to more competing visions of manhood than ever before. Drawing on scholarship in gender studies, social identity, and communication, this lecture examines how masculinity is performed, learned, and contested online.
By exploring how social media reshapes identity and belonging, we’ll consider why debates about masculinity have become so culturally charged and what these struggles reveal about gender, power, and community in the 21st century.
Dr. Tira J. Murray is a communication scholar and cultural analyst who studies how social media, technology, and culture shape identity, visibility, and power in contemporary society. Her research explores how marginalized communities negotiate race, gender, sexuality, and beauty in digital spaces. Through public scholarship and speaking, she helps audiences understand how media and technology are transforming who gets seen, heard, and valued today.
