What is myth, and how can it guide us through collective and personal challenges? Join us for an illuminating evening as Professor Emily Lord-Kambitsch traces Swiss psychologist Carl Jung’s development of “personal mythmaking” as a path to insight and healing, born from his own intense dialogues with underworld figures in his unconscious.

Jung credited this “confrontation with the unconscious” as the foundation of his later theories. Through his gripping personal story—and critical perspectives on his work—we’ll explore key questions: What are the benefits and pitfalls of living according to a personal myth? What “shadow” figures must we face in our lives and personalities? How can recognizing the story patterns we’re living help us take greater ownership of our lives?

Professor Lord-Kambitsch is an Assistant Professor in the MA/PhD Program in Mythology and Religious Studies at Pacifica Graduate Institute, the only U.S. doctoral program devoted to cross-disciplinary mythology studies. Her research explores intersections of classical myth, depth psychology, and popular imagination.
