In this lecture, neuroscientist Dr. Viral Mistry will explore what we currently understand—and, crucially, what we still don’t know—about how and why people develop Alzheimer’s. He will unpack the leading scientific theories, the challenges that have stalled past treatments, and the promising directions that are guiding today’s research in the slow but steady march toward effective therapies.

Dr. Mistry researches neurodegenerative diseases at Loyola University Chicago and teaches neuroscience at Dominican University. Beyond the lab and classroom, he is a passionate advocate for science communication, social justice, and education, dedicated to making complex science accessible and meaningful.
