🧠 Lecture: "The Radical Rebellion That Terrified Europe"
🎙️ Speaker: Heather R. Darsie
Join us for a gripping evening as historian and author Heather R. Darsie explores the swift and violent rise of the early 16th-century Anabaptist movement and its shocking takeover of the Archbishopric of Muenster. At the height of the English and German Reformations, this radical episode horrified Europe’s most powerful rulers, including Henry VIII of England, Francis I of France, and Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.
Heather will unpack how the movement rapidly seized control of Muenster and how the ensuing violence and coercion by its leaders shook contemporary notions of religion, power, and social order across the continent.
Heather R. Darsie is an independent researcher specializing in early modern history, focusing on the Holy Roman Empire and England. She is the author of multiple works, including “Anna, Duchess of Cleves: The King’s Beloved Sister” and “Children of the House of Cleves,” and runs MaidensAndManuscripts.com. Trained as both an attorney and historian, she brings a sharp, interdisciplinary lens to one of the most unsettling uprisings of the Reformation era.
