Join us for an illuminating evening as author, professor, and psychotherapist Kyleigh Leddy explores how psychology and fiction intertwine in the timeless novels of Jane Austen.

Drawing on her academic research as co-founder of Boston College’s M.A. in Writing and the Human Condition and her work as a Fellow at The Center for Psychological Humanities, Kyleigh will examine how deep insight into the human mind shapes powerful storytelling. She will also weave in her professional experience as a clinical psychotherapist and as an author of memoir (HarperCollins) and fiction (Simon & Schuster).

Through close readings of Austen’s works, we’ll consider how Austen’s nuanced understanding of motivation, desire, and social perception helped create enduring plots and unforgettable characters. Together, we’ll explore how writing cultivates empathy, how therapeutic practice demands imaginative engagement with others’ stories, and what Austen can teach us about both.

Kyleigh Leddy’s writing has appeared in the New York Times, New York Magazine, and Parents, and she was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Media list in 2023.
