📚 Lecture: "The Power of Archives: Custodians of Memory"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Ilk Yasha
What do dusty boxes, faded letters, home videos, and hard drives have in common? They are all part of the archives—the raw materials of memory, history, and identity. In this compelling lecture, Dr. Ilk Yasha will explore the purpose and power of archives, examining how they shape our understanding of the past.
From personal letters and photographs to digital records and community collections, archives influence public memory and cultural identity. But what gets preserved—and what is forgotten—is never neutral. This conversation will delve into who builds archives, who uses them, and how the archival practice can reflect and reshape our society.
Dr. Ilk Yasha is an independent curator and educator at New York University and the Studio Museum in Harlem, with research focusing on art, power, archives, and community engagement.
Don’t miss this opportunity to uncover the significance of memory preservation with Dr. Ilk Yasha!
