Join historian Dr. Caroline Malloy for a vivid exploration of this extraordinary 11th-century work and the Anglo-Saxon world that created it. More than a depiction of the Battle of Hastings, the Bayeux Tapestry is a sweeping record of medieval morality and identity, coveted by figures as varied as Napoleon, Hitler, and the British Museum.
Dr. Malloy will trace how this thousand-year-old embroidery became a foundational “visual text” inspiring national tapestries from Scotland to South Africa. You’ll also glimpse its future: the Tapestry’s rare journey to England and its landmark display at the British Museum, along with modern works like the Great Tapestry of Scotland and the Keiskamma Tapestry.
Dr. Caroline Malloy is a Chicago-based historian and nonfiction editor who spent over a decade in academia before traveling the world as a Resident Historian with Viking Ocean cruises.
