🧠 Lecture: "The Gamblification of Sports: Betting & Addiction"

🎙️ Speaker: Professor Gina Antoniello

Sports fandom has always thrived on uncertainty—the buzzer-beater, the blown call, the miracle comeback. But in the age of mobile betting, fantasy platforms, and prediction markets, that uncertainty has been turned into a product. Fans are no longer just spectators; they are being transformed into speculators, with every play, emotion, and moment priced and monetized.

In this lecture, Professor Gina Antoniello takes audiences inside the rapidly evolving marketplace of fandom, drawing on her work with SafeBets and her research at the intersection of sport, ethics, and enterprise. She asks a critical question: when sport becomes a market, who is that market really built to serve?

From the addictive architecture of betting apps to the blurred line between gambling and “trading,” Antoniello unpacks what happens when sport’s most beautiful uncertainty becomes a business model—and what it might look like to build a fan economy around intelligence and insight instead of extraction.
