🧠Lecture: "The Dark Side of Fashion: The Rise of the Fast & Cheap"
🎤 Speaker: Professor Ann Cantrell
Join us for an eye-opening evening exploring the past, present, and future of the fashion industry through the lens of sustainability and circularity. From fashion’s role in the first Industrial Revolution to today’s ultra-fast, ultra-cheap trends, Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)’s Professor Ann Cantrell will unpack how fast fashion emerged, why it remains one of the least regulated and most environmentally damaging industries in the world, and what we can each do to reduce our personal carbon footprint.
Ann Cantrell is an entrepreneur and academic with over 18 years of experience running a modern general store in Brooklyn and more than 16 years teaching full-time in FIT’s Fashion Business Management Department. A passionate advocate for small, independent businesses, she has been featured by American Express’s Small Business Saturday and quoted in The New York Times, USA Today, Forbes, BBC World News, NBC, MSNBC, ABC News, and the Associated Press.
