Join us for a captivating, spooky lecture as JR Pepper delves into the remarkable story of the Fox Sisters. In 1848, two young girls astonished their mother by claiming they could communicate with the spirit world through mysterious raps and taps in their Hydesville home. What began as a potential child's prank ultimately birthed Spiritualism, a religious movement that influenced millions.

How did the Fox Sisters gain credence in their supposed abilities? What led so many prominent figures to believe them? And how did they navigate the fame and notoriety that followed them through life?

JR Pepper is an adjunct professor of art history at CUNY Brooklyn College, a freelance lecturer, photographer, and self-described "professional eccentric." With a BA and MA in art history focusing on Surrealism and spirit photography, her artwork has been featured in various exhibitions and publications. She is also a regular lecturer at The Brooklyn Brainery and The Odd Salon.
