🧠Lecture: "Pleading Insanity: Crime, Law, and the Human Mind"
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Patrick McGonigal
Join us for a fascinating evening exploring one of the most controversial questions at the intersection of crime, law, and psychology: what does it really mean to be “not guilty by reason of insanity”?
Forensic psychologist Dr. Patrick McGonigal will break down the legal criteria for the insanity defense and walk you through how experts evaluate defendants who plead NGRI. You’ll examine real-world examples from well-known and contentious cases and use what you’ve learned to decide for yourself whether the courts got it right.
Dr. McGonigal earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a Forensic Emphasis from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and works as a psychologist at Patton State Hospital. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles on forensic mental health and brings extensive clinical and courtroom experience to this complex topic.
Come challenge your assumptions about criminal responsibility, mental illness, and justice.
