🎤 Speaker: Professor Nick Rosenthal
Join us for an enlightening evening with Professor Nick Rosenthal as we explore the rich contributions of Indigenous artists in the art world during the twentieth century. For generations, these artists have sought to create a space for Native art within North American culture, making significant strides in both aesthetics and social impact.
In this lecture, Professor Rosenthal will focus on the lives of these artists and their efforts in “Painting Native America” for museums, galleries, and public spaces. He will highlight how their works aimed to enhance understandings of Indigenous cultures, advocate for political claims, and challenge dominant narratives in North American history. Attendees will also appreciate the aesthetic beauty and continuous innovations within Indigenous art, alongside its social and political power.
Nicolas G. Rosenthal is a professor and chair of the history department at Loyola Marymount University, where he has dedicated twenty years to teaching and researching Indigenous history and other important themes.
