🧠 Lecture: "No Gravity, No Bedtime: The Science of Sleeping in Space"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Devjoy Dev
Take away gravity, natural light, and a normal schedule—and sleep gets weird fast. Astronauts in orbit face disrupted rhythms, floating bodies, and a constant battle to stay rested and alert. In this fascinating talk, Dr. Devjoy Dev unpacks the science behind sleep in space: what goes wrong, what adapts, and what it all reveals about human health.
Drawing on his research in space medicine, circadian rhythms, and the gut-brain axis, as well as stories from his project Humans of the Sky, Dr. Dev connects life in orbit to the way we sleep—and struggle to sleep—here on Earth.
Dr. Dev is a Senior Clinical Specialist at Medtronic, a TEDx speaker, and a Science Communication Fellow at the Museum of Science, Boston. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from New York University, was a Research Scholar at Harvard Medical School, and has worked with the European Space Agency (ESA). He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, The Explorers Club, and OSMED.
