Jason will dismantle the myth of the “lone genius” and show how collaboration, community, and mentorship shaped his career. Hear the story behind battling an editor over a cartoon of an elephant buying peanuts, why sharing “shower notes” and terrible rough sketches is essential to the creative process, and how to know when to listen to an editor—or ignore them completely.

He’ll share how he pivoted when a media mogul killed his 100-year-old comic strip, how he survives constant rejection, and why seeking out people doing what you want to do (and “annoying them until they teach you”) is the fastest way to grow.

Jason Chatfield is an award-winning cartoonist, author, and comedian whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, MAD, Esquire, Variety, Wired, and more.
