🧠 Lecture: "Infidelity, Communicated: Secrets, Lies, Side Pieces"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Megan Dowd
Cheating is never just about sex. It’s about secrets, stories, boundaries, suspicion, performance, and power.
Join us for an eye-opening evening as Dr. Megan Dowd unpacks infidelity through the lens of communication: how people create secrecy, manage deception, justify betrayal, and uncover hidden relationships. We’ll explore emotional affairs, “micro-cheating,” confession, discovery, and the paradoxical ways people try to communicate love while simultaneously betraying it.
Dr. Dowd is a communication scholar who studies how people manage relationships through talk. She earned her PhD in Communication Studies and spent over a decade teaching Interpersonal Communication, The Dark Side of Communication, and Family Communication at Hamilton College, the University of Rhode Island, and Ohio University. Her research centers on secrecy, deception, jealousy, and infidelity, revealing how everyday interactions shape our closest bonds. Now a business strategist, she remains passionate about translating communication research for curious audiences outside the classroom.
