🧠Lecture: "How to Humanize a Robot: Expressions, History, Research"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Julienne Greer
Join us for a fascinating evening with Dr. Julienne Greer as we explore what it really means to “humanize” a robot. As social robots become permanent fixtures at home and at work, how do we program them with the emotional nuance, physical expression, and ethical awareness that define human connection?
Drawing on theatre and performance methodologies, Dr. Greer will show how studying our own gestures, history, and social behavior can shape more meaningful human-robot interaction. You’ll learn how robots can positively impact our lives while we confront urgent questions about privacy, trust, and the future of shared spaces with machines.
Dr. Greer is an interdisciplinary scholar and artist whose work sits at the emerging intersection of theatre and social robotics. Formerly Associate Professor and Director of the Emotional Robotics Living Lab at the University of Texas at Arlington, she now leads the AIxHEArt conference and teaches “Humanizing Social Robots” at UC San Diego Extended Studies.
Come discover how all of us can become “humanizing programmers” in a world where humans and robots live, work, and relate side by side.
