ποΈ Lecture: The Separation of Powers: How It Started vs. How It's Going
π¨βπ« Speaker: Professor Bruce Peabody
Themes: government Β· historical Β· analytical
What is the American separation of powers, and how is it holding up in 2025? This lecture uncovers the hidden history and original purpose of the separation of powers, then evaluates how well itβs functioning under the pressures of a new year and a new administration. Is our system of divided government still balancing power as intended, or is it at risk of breaking down? And why does it matter?
Bruce Peabody teaches American politics at Fairleigh Dickinson University, specializing in law, courts, and constitutionalism. His first book, The Politics of Judicial Independence, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press, and his work has appeared in numerous law reviews and scholarly journals, including Towards a Unifying Theory of the Separation of Powers in American University Law Review.
Donβt miss this chance to learn and connect in a relaxed, engaging atmosphere. π»
