🧠Lecture: "But What Did Jurassic Park Get Right?"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Eric Gorscak
Join us for a thrilling evening as paleontologist Dr. Eric Gorscak unpacks what Jurassic Park got right—and wrong—about dinosaurs. This lecture traces the evolving history of dinosaur paleontology from the early 20th century through the release of the blockbuster film, when major questions about dinosaur lifestyles, the origin of birds, and the end-Cretaceous mass extinction were reaching scientific consensus.
Was Jurassic Park the right movie at the right time to bring these bold new ideas to the public—and has the franchise kept pace with the last three decades of dinosaur research? Dr. Gorscak will explore how new fossil discoveries and cutting-edge science have reshaped our understanding of these prehistoric giants.
Dr. Eric Gorscak is an Associate Professor of Anatomy at Midwestern University in Downers Grove. Formerly a post-doctoral researcher in paleontology at the Field Museum in Chicago, he earned his PhD at Ohio University. His research focuses on titanosaurian sauropod dinosaurs—massive, long‑necked plant eaters of the Cretaceous—especially from Africa, and his fieldwork spans the United States, Tanzania, Kenya, and Antarctica.
