🧠 Lecture: "Are There Universal Morals? Relativism for Modern Times"
🎤 Speaker: Prof Jeremy Evans
Join us for a thought-provoking evening as Prof Jeremy Evans guides us through one of the most pressing questions in ethics today: are there truly universal moral principles, or is morality always relative to culture and context?
Together, we will investigate some of the strongest candidates for universal moral principles proposed by philosophers over the centuries. From these classic ideas, we’ll turn to the persistent moral disagreements that shape public life, using them to illuminate today’s deep moral and political divisions in the United States.
Prof Jeremy Evans earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin in 2014 and now directs the Managing for Social Impact program at Boston College. Drawing on both rigorous philosophical training and real-world social impact work, he will offer fresh insight into how we might navigate our divided moral landscape.
